Darren is a senior practitioner with over 26 years of experience, predominantly gained in private legal practice. His in-depth expertise in property and hospitality spans a wide range of successful transactions, showcasing his longstanding track record. He also brings insights from working in-house to the advice he provides to clients.

EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Darren advises on all aspects of commercial property law, including development and off the plan sales in residential, commercial and industrial land, sales and acquisitions of commercial and industrial land (including complex due diligence investigations in property being sold, acquired, leased or mortgaged), and all aspects of commercial, industrial and retail leasing.

He has expertise in hotels, pubs, restaurants, resorts and tourism projects including representing several sporting clubs and businesses. His hospitality expertise includes all liquor licensing and gaming requirements.

Darren has advised in both state and federal environmental law, particularly in relation to due diligence investigations, the management of contaminated land and controlled chemicals, emissions and the development and implementation of environmental management systems.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Darren’s major matters include:

  • Acting for an investment firm in its acquisition of a $16m hospitality venue in Pakenham, Victoria
  • Acting for Australia’s largest funds manager with the sale and acquisition of its properties, as well as all its leasing needs for its Victorian portfolio
  • Acting on a 660 apartment multi use development in Clayton
  • Acting on a 300 lot greenfield off the plan development
  • Acting on a 360 lot industrial off the plan development
  • Representing a tenant on a $4m per annum cold storage facility in Queensland
  • Advising a golf club in its lease plan subdivision of Crown allotted land in order for it to build and sell residential leasehold interests
  • Representing a surf lifesaving club with its liquor licence application and the associated management agreement
  • Assisting a property developer succeed in obtaining a variation to its gaming licence venue that was associated with a residential development.
