Joseph is a skilled practitioner in statutory entitlement matters before the ART and Federal Court. He regularly represents clients in matters under the Safety, Rehabilitation, and Compensation Act 1988 and Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 and advises on issues under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Privacy Act 1988. He is experienced in drafting Privacy Impact Assessments for government clients and advising on statutory interpretation issues.
In addition, Joseph provides advice to Australian Government departments in respect of claims under the Scheme for Compensation for Detriment caused by Defective Administration (CDDA Scheme) and the Act of Grace mechanism. As part of this work, he conducts legal liability assessments regarding allegations of tortious conduct and misfeasance in public office.
He has also assisted on legislation drafting projects.
Joseph has completed secondments to both private clients and Australian Government Departments. Consequently, he has a profound understanding of the sensitivities impacting his clients and the need to provide pragmatic and timely advice.
Having acted for government in a range of litigated and advisory matters, Joseph has a deep understanding of the ACT’s Law Officers Legal Services Directions 2023, and the Commonwealth’s Legal Services Directions 2017 and obligation to act as a model litigant.
