Why did you become a lawyer? After I left school I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I started a social work degree but decided that the band aid type work wasn’t for me. I started working as a disability advocate at a Community Legal Centre and I loved it. I knew then that I wanted to be a lawyer and an advocate at Court. When my youngest son started High School I started my Juris Doctor . While I initially thought I wanted to do criminal law, I have ended up as a litigator in administrative law which I love. I have worked in the community sector, government and I have ended up in private practice which I have found to be my best fit. It allows me to showcase, and be rewarded for, my skills, as well as allowing me to give back to the community with my pro-bono work. Why Moray & Agnew? I was approached by a recruiter to put my CV forward to Moray & Agnew while I was working at another firm. I knew that Moray & Agnew had been appointed to the government panel for the work I was doing at this firm. I checked out the firm on the website and was impressed with the number of women leaders and their commitment to social justice. Moray & Agnew has lived up to this first impression, being a firm that supports its lawyers to succeed and reach their full potential. I enjoy the opportunity to mentor young lawyers in my team and I have had amazing support from the leadership team here for my own career progression. Moray & Agnew has also supported me to undertake pro bono work which is a passion of mine. What do you enjoy outside work? Spending time with my (now grown) children and my dog. Running is a new passion for me and I completed my first half marathon recently. My dog helps with the motivation to get up in the morning to go for a run! I have done a lot of back-packing travel in the past. I love travelling to new places, experiencing different landscapes and learning about different cultures (both overseas and in Australia). Three words that sum you up Dedicated, compassionate and collegial.
